Lisa woke up on Tuesday and swore it was Saturday! Ever been there?
After convincing her that it was not Saturday I said to her, "not only did you just skip four days but you skipped Thanksgiving, the biggest day of the week"! As we laughed about it, it dawned on me at that moment how often we focus on the big things and miss the wonder and the beauty of the "small" things.
Lisa thought it was Tuesday and I said she skipped the big day of the week, Thanksgiving, but the truth is we both minimized Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday! The truly big events of this week were the moments that would fill everyday of this week, with equal value!
Moments are the eternal acts of God played out in time and space. They are the building blocks to every day.
Days are majestic mercies from the Lord blessing us with yet one more day. Days are the building blocks of purpose and significance shaped by the use of every moment.
Days and moments, everyone of them, is a gift to be adored, appreciated and lived out with a tenacity that proves we know their value. We must guard our hearts against letting the BIG days drown out the significance of the small moments we have within each day. Don't minimize the small things - the moments of every day. Not only do they matter to the Lord but they are the building block (the ingredients) of joy, appreciation and worship.
I know this Thanksgiving many of us are staying home, refraining from traditional travel. Will it be different for those who normally travel? Yes. Will it be the same? Well, that depends on how we view moments. If every moment is an eternal act of God and every day is a majestic mercy from the Lord tomorrow will be different, but still glorious.
I cannot be with my entire family this Thanksgiving because my mom has an immune disease; so we have to be extremely careful. But here is the blessing in it all that I might have easily missed: since I cannot gather with them tomorrow I will be thinking of them in ways that would be minimized if I was with them. Presence is not only a physical reality.
Tomorrow, like today, will be made of moments! Make each one count!
